65 injection molds for a new tractor cab: a large-scale project!
An exceptional industrial program
Unimold Asia was selected, alongside a leading French injection molder, to design and manufacture the complete set of plastic injection tooling for the new cabin of a CLAAS tractor.
This project included:
- 65 injection molds
- Approximately 175 tons of machined steel
- Presses with clamping forces ranging from 100 to 1,800 tons
- More than 100 different part references
By its scale, this is one of the most ambitious projects Unimold Asia has ever undertaken.
Aesthetic trim parts & technical components
The project scope covered both visible interior trim parts and technical components. Some parts feature chemically etched Mold-Tech textures for enhanced aesthetics.
Cab interior components require resolute standards: texture consistency, controlled shrinkage, and perfect fitting during assembly.
Two years of development and strong involvement in DFM
The project development spanned a full two-year period.
Beyond mold manufacturing, Unimold Asia played an active role in the upstream phase, with in-depth participation in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) analyses.
Our ability to manage a large number of tools simultaneously was a key success factor. Planning, management, and multi-project coordination enabled progress in parallel on molds of varying sizes and levels of complexity.
Testing in China, technical support in France
All trials, fine-tuning, and initial adjustments were carried out at our facilities in China. The vast majority of dimensional corrections, mechanical adjustments, and validation of aesthetic aspects were completed in China in order to minimize costs and shorten lead times.
Dedicated technical support was then implemented in France to assist with the series production launch at the injection molder and to carry out the final adjustments.
This dual presence—with production in Asia and technical support in France—fully reflects Unimold Asia’s DNA: industrial performance combined with local proximity.
